Hollywood Influence
Personal trainers get movie star makeovers for spring at the Scott Taylor
salon in Belle Meade.
With Nashville's constant influx of people and influences from the West Coast, the local
beauty and fashion scene is rivaling those of metropolitan cities across the nation. One of the
best local spots - and one of the most celebrity-endorsed - is Scott Taylor's stylish boutique
on Harding Road.
From the eye-catching exterior to the lively colors and music inside, it's obvious that
Hollywood is alive and well in this West Nashville salon. The creator of the popular line of hair
products that bears his name, Taylor is the force behind the allure of this upbeat and modern
beauty oasis.
His extensive background includes a history of working with the top names in the industry, and his
celebrity client list is one that has repeatedly earned him national attention. No novice to the
art of the makeover, Taylor has done a number of national and regional television shows featuring
his techniques. In addition to his stints on camera, Taylor is highly regarded in promotional
circles for working with artists on big productions including the Academy Awards and the Oscars.
His resume also includes behind-the-scenes work on popular TV shows such as The Young & The
Restless, Good Morning America and General Hospital.
When our candidates Cindy Payne and Jeni Lopez, personal trainers at The Delta Fitness Club and
Spa, arrived for their makeovers, they were greeted by countless photos of famous personalities
Taylor's worked on lining the hallway of the salon. With these kinds of endorsements, all fears
were left behind. Cindy and Jeni put their trust in Taylor and his staff and prepared to look
fabulous in less than two hours.
Jeni Lopez

COLOR: Jeni had attempted to do her own color, and was unhappy with the results. Her hair
required a corrective color technique. Taylor laid down tracks of pointillism, pulling out
inconsistent hair color. Fashionably finished bottom strands created a slightly darker look.
He used the color to enhance Jeni's beauty. Taylor has a good philosophy - he wants the entire
person to look great, no just the hair.
CUT: Less is more. Jeni already had good length and balance. Taylor rebalanced her style by
cleaning up the ends and creating beveled edges. This added height to the crown. The cut frames
her face to highlight her eyes, cheekbones, and beautiful neckline.
Cindy Payne
COLOR: A rich chestnut base color with caramel tones was chosen. In most women, these highlights
bring out skin and eye color. For this effect, Taylor resurrected a method of technical
highlighting called Pointalism, a special technique used in the '80s. The method reproduced
a look Taylor created for Priscilla Presley for an interview with Larry King. Since Taylor's
arrival in Nashville, his clientele have become noticeably less conservative - it's marvelous
to see more style in the local market.

CUT: Cindy is a very physical person, so she needs to look good while working (out). She needed
a look that would compliment her career. Taylor decided on a cut that would contour to the way
a person moves. Styles with movement are enhanced if the cut is less heavy. The result is simple,
yet when she runs her hands through it, the hair falls into place. For a softer look, all she
has to do is add a little gel.
